Many people contact the project asking how to tell the difference between a Buzzard and a young Eagle.
This blog post demonstrates the development of an Eagle chick, in this case Skan (C17), over a period of 9 weeks. Typically we would only care for the Eaglets in the aviaries for 6-7 weeks until they reach fledging stage but the unpredictable incident with Beaky (C11) meant that we were able to film Skan (C17) for a further 2 weeks.
First of all, we hope wherever you are in the world, that you are safe and well and those you care about are equally so.
Project Update - 2020 Translocations
We really hope you are keeping safe and well during the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. It is important that we all follow the latest government advice at this time to support our wonderful NHS and help to save the lives of our loved ones, our staff and our communities. For this reason, we sadly will not be proceeding with plans to collect or release chicks in June of this year as we had previously planned and been licensed to do so. It would be irresponsible for us to contemplate any collections or releases which require a team of dedicated staff and volunteers while restrictions on movements are in place.
Beaky is our first released eagle to reach the North Pennines
Longer days and warmer temperatures have seen our four released golden eagles, Emily (121), Beaky (C11), Edward (C09) released in 2018, and Skan (C17) in 2019, extending their travels and exploring the length and breadth of the south of Scotland.
